What tools we will need to create a labradorite pendant necklace.

We won’t need a lot of tools. A few hand tools for working with wire will be enough.

If you are going to use natural wire and patinate and polish it afterwards – additional tools and materials will be needed. You will need a solution for patinating the wire. You will also need a polishing tool. A grinder with special felt tips will be needed for polishing metal. I recommend using special polishing pastes for metals for better polishing quality.

What materials I used.

To create the pendant for Labradorite pendant necklace, I used a drop-shaped labradorite stone with a hole. The size of the labradorite is 35 x 23 mm, 6 mm thick.

We will use 0.8 mm thick copper wire for the base and 0.3 mm thick wire for weaving. Using this kind of wire may be challenging to work with. The wire is thin and I personally have to work wearing glasses to weave thin patterns.

To weave the pendant I took three pieces of wire thickness of 0.8 mm, each of them about 40 cm long.

Approximately in the middle begin to weave the three main wires in any way.

Weave about 3 cm.

Next, you need to attach the labradorite stone to the weaving. Slip the thin wire through the hole of the stone several times and continue weaving the wire.

Weave the wires together and bend the weaving over the edge of the stone.

Weave to the bottom of the stone.

Next, let’s weave the two lower wires. The top wire should be left free. First, gently bend the single wire in a ring.

Then bend the weaving of two wires and again continue weaving three wires together.

On the back side, cut off the unwanted ends of the wire and bend them nicely. Don’t forget to fix (sew) the top weaving to the bottom weaving.

Continue weaving.

We need to make a loop at the top of the pendant and place the weaving on the back of the pendant. Weave the middle wire with the wire, and leave the rest as is.

Bring all three wires to the front side (place them beautifully) and at the bottom of the pendant again place it on the back side.

On the reverse side, attach the weaving to the base and continue weaving. Place the weaving nicely on the stone, and sew the weaving on top of the pendant so that it doesn’t dangle.

Now the stone is well fixed on all sides. It only remains to cut the excess wire and bend the ends. Hide (bend) the ends of the wire under the lower weaving so that they won’t cling to your clothes or scratch your skin later on.

Make a loop for the chain or cord out of 1 mm thick or thicker copper wire.

Wire and labradorite pendant. Patination and polishing of copper wire.

I usually patinate copper wire in ammonia vapor. I pour the ammonia into a glass jar with a lid and hang the copper product over the ammonia solution.

After a while, the copper will begin to darken. Wait until the copper darkens to the desired color and take the pendant out of the jar.

Next, polish the copper wire. Then I wash the pendant with soap and water (in running water) using a brush.

I used a copper ball chain, special fasteners, connecting rings and a lobster lock (clasp). Using fittings, I attached the clasp to the ball chain and slipped the chain into the loop on the pendant.

The copper will darken over time. You will have to renew and polish the copper wire after a while. Or there is another way – you can coat the wire with colorless varnish.
