Copper wire is most often used by craftsmen around the world to create jewelry. I am talking about the natural copper wire. I also very often use natural copper wire to make my jewelry. And today we are going to make a Copper wire wrapped pendant.
We will use a half hard copper wire with a thickness of 1 mm for the base and a dead soft copper wire with a thickness of 0.4 mm for the weaving.
You can use any wire you have on hand to make the Copper wire wrapped pendant. But it’s important to use a wire of appropriate thickness.
Faceted stone
I didn’t actually use a gemstone, but faceted glass. The paint on the back was of poor quality, so I had to reinforce it. I coated the back of the faceted glass with silver nail polish. You can use colorless nail polish for this.
Faceted stone (glass) without a hole. We are going to use one of the ways to attach a stone without a hole.
Maybe after you try to make a Copper wire wrapped pendant from copper wire and faceted glass you will want to create a jewelry piece from gold or silver and faceted gemstone.

Be sure to buy silicone tipped pliers. This is a very necessary tool for working with wire. Regular metal pliers can easily scratch the wire. When working with silicone tipped pliers, you don’t have to worry about scratching the wire.

We need four pieces of copper wire 1 mm thick and about 30-40 cm long. For the weaving, we need 0.4 mm thick soft wire. You should always have enough thin wire in stock.
Weave the four wires together in any way you like. I usually start weaving in the middle and continue to weave to one side and to the other.
Bend the weaving around the stone. I made a device to bend the weaving. These devices are very easy to make with your own hands. You can make them in different sizes to bend weavings of different diameters.
Watch the video.
Bend the weaving around the edge of the faceted stone. With this weaving, we will hold the stone on the sides. It remains to clamp the stone at the top and bottom so that it does not fall out.
Split one of the weavings into two pairs.
Bend the wire as shown in the photo.
We need to make a loop for the cord or necklace. Bend the weaving backwards and divide it into two pairs.
Weave these two pairs in any way using thin wires. At the point where the arrow shows, sew the two weavings together.
Cut off the excess wire. Leave the ends about 1 cm. Then bend them into rings.
Do the same with the second weaving.
Try on a faceted stone. The edge of the stone should be against the weaving. If necessary, bend the weavings on which the stone lies.
From the front side, bend weaving of two wires as shown in the photo. The weaving should overlap the stone a little bit. The weaving is used to hold the stone from the front side so that it does not fall out of the jewelry.
At the bottom of the pendant, sew this weaving to the bottom and continue weaving with the same thin wire.
Next, bend the weaving around the edge of the stone, too.
Fix the end of the weaving to the lower weaving with a thin wire. Place the second weaving in the opposite direction. You can create additional patterns at your discretion and then take them to the opposite side.
On the back side, fix the weaving with thin wire. Cut off the excess wire and make rings.
The copper wire wrapped pendant is finished. The faceted stone is firmly mounted in the jewelry piece.
I usually patinate copper wire in ammonia vapor. I pour ammonia bought at the drugstore (in Russia) into a glass jar with a lid and hang the piece over the solution. After some time, the copper will darken. Through the transparent glass, you can clearly see when the copper darkens to the desired color.
Then I polish the copper. I use a grinder with special felt tips. I also use polishing pastes.
The copper wire wrapped pendant can be coated with colorless varnish to prevent it from darkening over time.
