Today, in another Wire weaving tutorial for beginners, I will tell and show you how to make a pendant out of copper wire and a cabochon stone without a hole. We will not solder anything, we will secure the cabochon with wire.

What kind of wire is needed to create a stone pendant?

As you have already understood, we will use a soft, natural copper wire with a thickness of 1 mm for the base and a thin wire with a thickness of 0.4 mm for the weaving. You can buy natural copper wire in online stores. You can use copper wire from electrical wires, which can be bought in hardware stores.

To create a pendant, you can use any other wire of appropriate thickness.

In our today’s wire weaving tutorial for beginners, I will use a drop-shaped cabochon made of natural agate. The stone has no hole, which makes it difficult for us to attach it. Don’t worry, I will show you a reliable way to fix the cabochon with wire.

What tools do we need to work with wire?

You don’t need a lot of tools to make wire wrap jewelry. We will not solder anything, we do not need torches and solders. A small set of hand tools is enough.

You can buy such a set at a hardware store or order it online.

I like to use natural wire for my jewelry. I like to “age” (to make it look old) – patinate the wire and then polish it. For patination, I most often use ammonia, which you can buy at the drugstore. For polishing, I use a grinder with special felt tips. I also use polishing pastes.

In today’s wire weaving tutorial for beginners, we will need 5 pieces of 1 mm thick soft copper wire about 50 cm long. You should have a lot of thin wire in stock.

I must warn you in advance – this is not a detailed wire wrap master class. In this tutorial, I will tell you about a reliable method of fixing a stone that you can use to create your jewelry out of wire and stones. If you are no longer new to this technique, it won’t be hard for you to make exactly the same pendant based on the photos I’ve made.

Around the middle, let’s start to weave all the wires together in any way we can. So, let’s begin the wire weaving tutorial for beginners.

Next, we need to make a holder for the cabochon.

I intentionally do not give the exact sizes. You will have your cabochon with certain sizes. Create a holder according to your cabochon.
Then, bend the weaving around the cabochon.

The pendant is ready! You can wear it, or give it as a gift. Or you can even sell it for a profit!

Put the cabochon on the table, the weaving should be on top. The wire frame should hold the cabochon firmly in place. This is the main secret of my wire weaving tutorial for beginners.

In the process of weaving you will need to clamp the top of the cabochon on the front side and tightly clamp the stone with a wire on the back side.

And now let’s work with the top of the pendant. Let’s make a loop and decorate it.

You can create your own weaving patterns or you can repeat after me.

As you have already noticed, I clamped the top of the cabochon with the weaving on the front side.

Bring the ends of the wires to the back of the pendant. With this wire, we will clamp the cabochon. Cut off the excess wire, bend it nicely, and sew (attach) it to the weaving.

Next, you need to make a loop for the necklace or cord. Bend the weaving of wire and sew the ends to the weaving as well.

On the back side, we securely fastened the cabochon. On the front side, the cabochon is also fixed in place.

Check the entire pendant – correct any flaws, if any. If necessary, patinate the copper wire. I patinated the copper in ammonia vapor. I poured ammonia into a glass jar with a lid and hung the piece on a wire ABOVE the ammonia. After a while, the copper will darken. Take out the jewelry and polish the copper wire. Wash under running water with liquid soap. I use a toothbrush for it.

Copper will darken over time. To prevent this from happening, you can coat the entire piece with a colorless varnish. I hope you enjoyed my wire weaving tutorial for beginners.
