It was believed that such jewelry had a special magical power and could protect a person from evil charms. The more the master put his soul and energy into the product, the stronger the magic of the jewelry. The use of certain natural stones, symbols and ornaments multiplies the power of the amulet.

Leather is a material that accompanies mankind practically throughout its history. Leather is good material and that is why it is used as a basis for the manufacture of clothing, shoes and other household items. It has high strength, durability and exceptional naturalness. At the same time, leather is a very elastic material, which ensures its wide application in many branches of human activity. Jewelry made of leather is by no means a novelty, but at the moment, in the modern world they have gained special popularity.

Natural leather is a very malleable material, so it can be used to make any jewelry: from beads on ethnic themes to elegant sophisticated brooches or earrings. There are many varieties of leather, the choice of one or another type will depend primarily on the purpose pursued.

For artistic needs, craftsmen use natural and artificial leather. In the process of creating costume jewelry from leather, it is combined with other materials: stones, bone beads, rhinestones and feathers.

Due to its naturalness, wearing leather is always comfortable. Especially if it is soft and gentle. Such leather is most often used to make jewelry. It is convenient when wearing and does not cause a feeling of discomfort or cold – so much different from metal or plastic.

How to make jewelry from leather and stone with your own hands.

Master class for beginners – pendant from leather and stone.

Today we will create a pendant with you from faux leather and a stone cabochon. If you have natural leather – you can also use it.

For work we will need:

Natural leather or artificial leather of different colors;
Cardboard;
A cabochon made of stone. I used a 30×40 mm cabochon;
Glue;
Scissors;
Utility knife;
A rolling pin (roller);
Rubber or wooden hammer;
Ruler;
Toothpicks;

Let’s get to work.

We need a strip of leather about 8-9mm wide.

Cut out a strip of leather. Cut as many leather strips of different colors as you need at once.

On the inside, smear glue all over the surface of the leather strip.

Fold the strip in half lengthwise.

Next, hammer the strip with a hammer or roll it with a roller. Prepare and glue several strips of different colors in advance.

On one side, cut the skin at an angle.

Now we need to reduce the thickness of the skin at the end of the strip.

We need to measure the length of the leather strip we need. Wrap the strip around the cabochon. In the photo below, the arrow shows where to cut the leather.

The other end of the strip needs to be cut as well.

Gently smear glue around the edge of the cabochon and the bottom of the leather strip. After some time, glue the leather to the stone as shown in the photo below.

Do the same with the following colorful strips of leather – measure and process the ends with a knife and glue.

It is necessary to do everything carefully. Try to make sure that in the process of work, glue does not appear on the front side of the pendant. If it does, remove the glue with a wooden toothpick.

We will need a thin piece of cardboard. Place the pendant on the cardboard and draw the outline with a pencil.

Cut a blank out of cardboard.

Coat the cardboard with glue and glue it to the piece of leather. Leave about 1-2 cm from the edge of the cardboard and cut the leather.

Grease the cardboard with glue and fold the skin – then press it on the cardboard with force. Do not pay attention to the folds, we will cut them off later.

Until the glue has dried, keep tightening the skin all the time. After that cut off the folds. I glued a piece of leather in the middle to even out the surface.

We will need a loop to attach the cord. I made a loop out of wire and flattened it a bit.

Coat both surfaces generously with glue.

And connect them together.
